Support Medicare Patients' Right to Choose PT Treatment

Did you know that patients who use Medicare are not allowed to seek physical therapy treatment paid for in any way other than through Medicare?Or in other words, Medicare patients seeking to SELF-PAY for treatment may not receive treatment services from a physical therapist that could qualify to be covered by Medicare? This LIMITS the choice of Medicare patients in seeking the best possible physical therapy services and treatments.  And it LIMITS physical therapy providers from providing self-pay treatment to an entire population of (Medicare) patients.  And wow, it's THE LAW!Imagine not being able to choose to pay cash, check, or charge for something that is good for you, improves your health, and you really need it to maintain your physical outlook.  It sounds ridiculous but for some this reality is much, much more serious than that. That is the limitation Medicare patients face when getting physical therapy. It sounds redundant but please indulge us as we say it another way... MEDICARE PATIENTS MAY ONLY PAY FOR QUALIFIED PHYSICAL THERAPY SERVICES BY USING THEIR MEDICARE BENEFITS.  That's right - no self-paying for physical therapy treatments of their own choice - NOT UNTIL Medicare rejects payment of physical therapy services attended.  By then the patient has spent a lot of time, wondering and waiting to see if Medicare will pay for their appointment.  Time goes by and the patient is in pain and needs treatment NOW.  What can you do? You can choose to support the bill:Below is information on a bill to be presented this year to Congress: The Medicare Patient Empowerment Act of 2013.  Take yourself to the link below to support Medicare patients' right to choose their PT treatment services at anytime, anywhere, and paid for in the way they choose. Please go to the Link below, simply fill in your information and click send.

Support the Medicare Patient Empowerment Act of 2013 (H.R. 1310)PTs, PTAs and PT/PTA Students

Currently, physical therapists do not have the ability to privately contract with Medicare beneficiaries, unlike other healthcare providers. The Medicare Patient Empowerment Act of 2013 (H.R. 1310) would allow physical therapists and other providers to contract with Medicare beneficiaries.
As Medicare reimbursement and regulations continue to challenge those serving in health care, it is imperative for providers to maintain the ability to choose what is most appropriate for our practices. Email your Representative today and urge him or her to cosponsor the Medicare Patient Empowerment Act of 2013 (H.R. 1310).

2) Fill in your personal info and click send. If you want to personalize the letter, be my guest. But it really doesn’t have to take more than a couple minutes of your time.
3) You do not have to be a physical therapist to support the bill.  Anyone may fill out the form to support the bill - you will  just need to delete one or two lines from the form letter about being a Physical Therapist.

We welcome your support.

Sincerely,
Living Well Physical Therapy
